Hockey Afternoon in Canada

Princess Point - every Hamiltonian knows what happens there in the winter. Families gather with shovels and skates and make their way onto the frozen pond.

Forgot your shovel? No problem! Do what we did and borrow from one of the more organized families. Within minutes, a rink is ready. Within minutes, I'm looking just like those 5 year olds I laughed at yesterday who were playing hockey with my nephew. At least I hope I looked as good as them...

After a half hour of skating, I offer up my skates to Ev (somehow the 15 pairs of skates that have been collecting dust in our garage have disappeared - one pair of men's size 8 skates for Mom to share with Evann and Carson).

Meanwhile Leah and her girlfriend explored beyond the shovelled area and found a lots of interesting things coming out of the ice.

Skates off, my slapshots improve tenfold. Time to show Leah what her folks are made of. "Let's play to 10!" challenges Dad.

What a great workout! I am in awe of Leah who is skating circles around me and I am thrilled to be playing with her instead of watching her from the stands. And in boots, I can keep up with her. Well, at least I didn't look like those 5 year old rookie hockey players.

Thankfully Rob's ball hockey skills kept us in the game and we only lost 10-9.

Lots of fun! Oh Canada!
